Following the success of Chalice Production's explosive adaptation in September 2018, the gang are back for round two and this time they're taking to Chester's all-new £37-million creative venue; Storyhouse.
'Hamlet' is still one of Shakespeare’s most popular works; it is an absolute powerhouse of a play for performers, directors and audience alike. Yet, nearly 400 years on and there are still so many avenues to explore, so many questions to be considered:
‘What if Claudius wasn't the villain we thought?
What if he was trying to protect the woman he loved from the wrath of his brother?’
‘What if Laertes was Hamlet’s illegitimate brother?’
‘What if Hamlet wasn’t male?’
Join us as we consider gender, identity, power, deception, envy, lust , love, honour, betrayal, despair and so much more…
Don't miss out on an adaptation that will challenge all preconceptions of this masterful exploration of the 'human condition' as we delve even deeper into the psyche of the play's central characters. Of Hamlet, her allies and her enemies.
A girl is locked in a room.
A boy brings another boy flowers.
A girl has tied herself to a railing.
A boy doesn’t know who he is.
A girl worries about impending catastrophe.
A woman jumps in front of a train.
A boy’s heart falls out his chest.
A butterfly has a broken wing.
Chaos is a symphony of dislocated and interconnected scenes as a series of characters search for meaning in a complicated and unstable world.
Bouncing through physics, the cosmos, love and violence, they find
order in the disorder of each other.
